Seattle is a recycling kind of town. We were separating paper and glass long before the rest of the world started doing the same. Now we recycle everything from paper to glass, to plastic and food scraps.
Here at the Inn we will ask you to do your part. Each room has recycle baskets and trash cans with some helpful notes on what goes where. Downstairs in the kitchen we are recycling too, separating the recycles from the trash and recycling all of our food scraps. As you might imagine there is a fair bit of eggshells, fruit peelings and so on that we produce. It all goes out with the yard waste here, the city turns it into compost and then we buy it back to put make our gardens so lush and the flowers so bright!
We are doing other behind the scenes things to make your stay as pleasant as possible and still minimize our impact on the planet. The soaps in your rooms are all organic and hand made. The liquid is non-scented and made right here in the University District by our very own Ballard Organics Soap Company. The bar soaps are made by a former chef turned soapmaker and scented with essential oils.
We have always used a non-phosphate unscented laundry soap and are switching our cleaning products to more and more natural cleaners. We use no pesticides in the garden and keep the tub drains clear with vinegar and baking soda.
We are replacing as many of our lightbulbs as we can with the new CFL bulbs. We have removed the bottled water in the Suites and now provide you with Brita filtered water in your fridge. Seattle's drinking water is among the finest, and comes from winter snow pack and really does taste good. So while we all like to have water to carry with us, we are happy to refill your bottles for you with some excellent tasting, Seattle water straight from the tap.
